Classical & Acoustic Guitar Lessons via Skype or Zoom
Rik Roberts offers Classical and Acoustic Guitar Tuition online via Skype or Zoom each week as part of his regular teaching schedule and uses a very quality webcam and microphone to deliver a great online learning experience.
Whether you wish to learn Classical Guitar or Acoustic Blues, Jazz, Folk, Country, Popular, Contemporary, Traditional Fingerstyle, Percussive Style, Frailing, Strumming, live online lessons are a great option wherever you are.
Whichever of the above you choose, you will have a teacher who has years of performing and teaching experience in that style. Rik Roberts is a Concert Classical Guitarist who mixes the other aforementioned styles in his performances. He is also a Steel-String Acoustic Guitarist on the local folk scene.
He was a very early practitioner of Guitar Lessons via Skype in the late 2000s. He even recorded a segment for Channel 5's The Gadget Show back in 2009 and briefly appeared in the show when they were investigating different ways of learning guitar online. Since then he has developed highly effective approaches to using the medium to deliver the very best tuition.
Who is suited for learning online in this way?
Online webcam lessons are ideal for people who cannot travel weekly to a teacher, prefer learning from home or want to have lessons with a particular teacher who lives too far away for face to face lessons.
How well does it work?
There are obvious pros and cons, resulting in webcam lessons being an alternative but very exciting way of learning.
The pros: lessons can be more focussed with less distractions due to there being less opportunity for chit-chat and getting side-tracked. There is a better view of each other's hands and fretboard which really helps to directly deal with technical issues. A huge advantage is that lessons can be recorded by the student and referred to during the week. Lesson notes and material can be sent instantly, the chat feature means the teacher can write lesson keywords/notes which stay there week after week.
The cons: the obvious disadvantage is that the student and teacher cannot play together simultaneously due to a slight delay. This means lessons are structured slightly differently with more turn-taking in playing and applying techniques/lesson points. There is less of the social interaction you get in a face to face lesson although that often results in more learning points being covered due to a smoother pace of lesson.
In summary, webcam learning is different but very effective and you don't need to worry about battling through traffic to your lesson and spending 15 minutes trying to park!
